A guide to wax Snowboards
Thursday, March 26th, 2009Wax Snowboard- A how to. Do you need to wax a snowboard, but don’t know where to start? How do you select the right wax? Should you choose hot wax, or rub on? And what makes the two different anyway? When waxing a snowboard you need to know a few things. Luckily, it’s not that difficult to wax snowboard, with these easy to follow instructions.
To start with you need to choose the type of wax to use on your snowboard. Do you need a fully comprehensive wax, or do you just need to get through the next couple hours? If you want a wax snowboard that will last multiple days, it is best to give your board a hot wax. If your board is feeling a little sticky, and you want to make it through the rest of the day, a rub on wax is fine, but you should give your board a more comprehensive wax later.
Make sure you wax snowboards with the correct wax for the temperature outside. These days most companies make different colored wax for different temperatures. Wax is made for cold dry snow, wet snow, and warm snow. Make sure to choose either a universal wax, or a wax that coincides with your weather forecast, before waxing a snowboard.
Use a hot wax for a thorough snowboard wax. For a hot wax you will need a hole less hot iron, a stick of wax, a bench, and a scraper. Let your board warm up to room temperature and clean it, then put your board down onto the bench. Next, press the stick of wax against the hot iron and let the wax melt in drips onto the board. Divide the wax evenly over the bottom of the board, and continue until it has one eighth of an inch of wax. Leave the wax to dry, the use the scraper firmly in long, smooth strokes on the base of the board. The wax will flake off the bottom. Your wax snowboard is ready when you’ve scraped the whole base.
Following these instructions make it easy to wax a snowboard. Remember to consider what you need to wax for. More than one day, or just a few hours? Take the outside temperature also into consideration when choosing your wax. And get a hot wax from a shop if you don’t want to do it yourself. Remember, a wax snowboard is easier and more enjoyable to ride.
